Our Mom Crushes

“I don’t know how she does it.”

The movie that was released in 2011 pretty much sums up what we can say about work moms.

"She's only a year old and I've learned so much about myself from her. Giving birth was one of my biggest fears, and having Blue forced me to face it. And now I recognize the strength I have. She teaches me to focus on the things that truly matter, like family, and to pay attention to each moment, because they go by so quickly."

I’m sure she has some Voo-Doo recipes on keeping her youth. Nothing on her says a mom of three kids.

“Being a mother isn't a job. It's who someone is. It's who I am. You can quit a job. I can't quit being a mother. I'm a mother forever. Mothers are never off the clock, mothers are never on vacation. Being a mother redefines us, reinvents us, destroys and rebuilds us. Being a mother brings us face-to-face with ourselves as children, with our mothers as human beings, with our darkest fears of who we really are.”

Grey’s Anatomy has made her my favorite producer (and now working mom) of all times.

"Our desire to bring every good thing to our children is a force for good in the world. Whenever I travel in developing countries, I take time to meet with women in the communities I’m visiting. It’s a great opportunity to just listen. Women will tell me their hopes and dreams for their children. They want to be sure their kids are healthy and that they’re getting an education, because more than anything they want their children’s lives to be better than their own. Unfortunately, many of the women I meet don’t have access to high-quality health care and education for their children. If we can fill these gaps, we can truly unleash the power of mothers. When that happens, life will get better for literally hundreds of millions of people very fast."

We think she deserves a Noble prize.

Tory talks about what being mom to three boys has taught her:

  1. Have fun. Children have fun no matter where they are. They create fun and live in the moment.
  2. Take risks. My boys are not afraid to try new things. They know they might not catch the perfect wave the first time, but they will eventually.
  3. Be curious. My children are always asking “Why?” Don’t ever stop asking why…or who, what, when, how.

Inspired…..

'Like so many working mothers all over the world, I feel the constant struggle to be the best mother I can, whilst setting a good example to my children to work hard. I travel for work when it's necessary, and I miss them all the time when I am away.”

To all the working moms out there. Cheers.

Excuse me now, I have to go give my mommy a kiss.
